Frequently Asked Questions

What are the requirements to obtain a salesperson's license?
Licensees must be 19 years of age, a high school graduate or equivalent, have 60 hours (2 courses) of approved course work, provide the Real Estate Commission with a criminal background check run by the state patrol, and pass the state licensing examination.

When do classes start?
We start new classes each month.

When do the classes meet?
Most of our classes meet two evenings a week - either Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday. Class hours are 6:15 to 10:00 P.M. From time to time classes are offered on weekends. See the schedule to determine if any weekend courses are on the current schedule.

What is the cost of 30 hour courses?
The tuition for each 30 hour classroom course is $170.00. The tuition for each 30 hour correspondence course is $205.00.

How much do textbooks cost?
Textbooks range from $45.00 to $70.00 per course.

How long does it take to complete a course?
Four and one half weeks for our evening courses. There are 9 class sessions in each 30 hour evening course.

Is there an attendance requirement?
The Nebraska Real Estate Commission requires that students attend 8 of the 9 class sessions. A sign-in sheet is passed once or twice at each class session and attendance records are maintained in the Administrative Office.

Is there a grade requirement?
The Real Estate Commission requires a 70% to pass each pre-licensing course. There is a mid-term and a final exam in each course. Students must accumulate a minimum of 140 percentage points on the two exams to pass the course, plus be in attendance 30 clock hours.

Are there recommended courses?
We strongly encourage everyone to complete the Principles & Practices course. The needs and interests of each student will determine which other course they choose. For exam preparation we normally recommend Nebraska Real Estate Sales & Brokerage, Real Estate Law, or Real Estate Finance.

Should I take the Principles & Practices course first?
Taking Principles & Practices first is recommended, but not required. All the courses are basic courses. Since Principles & Practices is offered most months, students who want a specific course (such as Finance or Property Management) may choose to start with that class and take Principles & Practices second.

What does it cost to take the licensing exam?
You will pay the State of Nebraska $285.00 when you send your application to take the licensing exam.

Where do I get the application form?
To request an application packet from the Nebraska Real Estate Commission. You can call them at 402-471-2004 to request the form or access it on their website.

How often is the licensing exam given?
The licensing exam is computerized and given Monday through Friday at 9:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. and one Saturday a month, alternating between Omaha and Lincoln. There are four testing sites in Nebraska: Omaha, Lincoln, North Platte, and Scottsbluff. Once the applicant has been approved to take the licensing exam, he or she will receive a letter from the Real Estate Commission telling them how to contact the testing company to make their own appointment. Examination results are provided immediately upon completing the exam.
